About the Oval

The Oval began in autumn of 2007 with a simple goal: to start an undergraduate-run, non-profit literary journal publishing prose, poetry, and visual art. The name, Oval, is taken from the University of Montana campus promenades, where students can come together with equal representation for their ideologies and creativity, and, most importantly, have fun. Like the location for which it is named, it is the goal of the Oval and its staff to provide a continuing nexus point for young writers, their ideologies, and creative pursuits.

The Oval is published annually. It is sponsored by the University of Montana, the Associated Students of the University of Montana, and the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library. Submissions are taken year round from current undergraduate college and university students.
